Wedding Tipping Guide: Who to Tip and How Much

Tipping wedding vendors can be one of the most confusing (and unexpectedly expensive) parts of the planning process. While a tip is technically a 'thank you' for exceptional service, in the wedding industry, some tips are expected while others are entirely optional.
Who You MUST Tip (Expected)
- Catering Staff & Bartenders: Often included in your contract as a 'service fee'. If not, 15-20% of the food and beverage total is standard.
- Hair and Makeup Artists: 15-20% of the total fee, just like a regular salon visit.
- Transportation Drivers: 15-20% of the total bill, usually given at the end of the night.
Who You CAN Tip (Optional/Exceptional Service)
- Photographers & Videographers: If they own their own business, a tip isn't expected but is highly appreciated ($50 - $200). If they work for an agency, tipping is more customary.
- Wedding Planner/Coordinator: 10-20% of their fee, or a thoughtful, personal gift.
- Florist: Usually not expected, but $50 - $100 for exceptional setup is a nice gesture.
To keep track of all these cash envelopes, make sure you factor tips into your budget tracker.
