DIY Wedding Decor: What to Make vs. What to Buy

The DIY approach is incredibly popular for couples looking to personalize their day and stay within budget. However, not all DIY projects are created equal. Some are cost-effective, while others will leave you stressed and covered in hot glue the night before your wedding.
What You SHOULD DIY
- Welcome Signs & Seating Charts: Buying a digital template online and having it printed locally on foam board is incredibly easy and saves hundreds.
- Table Numbers & Place Cards: Calligraphy or printed cards placed in small frames or stands you collect from thrift stores.
- Wedding Favors: Small bags of coffee beans, homemade jam, or seeds are easy to assemble well in advance.
What You Should NOT DIY (Leave to Pros)
- The Food: Unless you are having a 20-person backyard wedding, self-catering a wedding is a logistical nightmare that violates most venue health codes.
- Bridal Bouquets & Large Florals: Arranging flowers takes skill, and flowers must be assembled 24-48 hours before the wedding—when you should be relaxing.
- Music/DJ: A Spotify playlist cannot read a room. A good DJ controls the entire flow and energy of the reception.
